Train is the most common, simple and relatively inexpensive way to get from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Time in transit varies from 7 to 12 hours, the cars are very different: from comfort to couchette compartment, and some trains even have seats. There are also special high-speed Express trains, the travel time between Moscow and Saint Petersburg which is only about 4h. These trains are called "Sapsan", "Red arrow" or "Nevsky Express". The problem of railway communication between these cities is that the tickets are usually bought up pretty quickly, and if your trip is unexpected, you may find that the ticket office no tickets at all, even on high-speed trains, which are already quite expensive. However, the high speed train is the fastest option to get from the center of Moscow right in the center of St. Petersburg.

The bus is a pretty inexpensive way to travel between Saint-Petersburg and Moscow. It is possible to get from Moscow to St. Petersburg by car or taxi. Distance from the Moscow ring road to the ring road of St. Petersburg is about 680 km. the route passes through the Leningrad highway. Having left on it, follow the signs: they occur constantly, and getting lost is impossible. It is best to avoid departure from Moscow on the Leningrad highway on Friday evening, and generally try not to go out on weeknights, as there is a risk to stand for hours in traffic. If you depart from Moscow at mid-day, the danger can lie in wait for you around the middle of the road: in Vyshny Volochyok on the traffic light sometimes the tube is such that we have to stand an hour or two. The ideal time of departure from Moscow by car – this early morning (6-7 am) or late evening (around 23 hours in the evening). Estimated travel time is 8-9 hours if possible to avoid traffic jams.

Fairly quick and easy option is to use the plane. Flights to Saint Petersburg are from all airports of Moscow aviation hub. Contrary to popular belief, the price of tickets usually are not so high, especially when compared with high-speed trains.
