The size of a football field

For domestic competitions held under the auspices of the International football Federation FIFA, the minimum length of the field is 90 meters or 100 yards, the maximum is 120 meters or 130 yards, the field width should not be less than 45 meters or 50 yards, and not exceed 90 meters or 100 yards.

During the international matches, the rules are a bit stricter. The field length must be between 100-110 meters of 110-120 yards or in the width — in the range of 64-75 meters or 70-80 yards.

There are recommended values, which, however, are conditional. According to him, length equal to 150 meters and a width of 68 meters.

Why teams use different sizes of the field?

The use of different dimensions of the field different teams is not accidental. Football is of great importance tactic. The width and the length of a football field seriously affects it. Teams prefer the long positional attack, it is easier to play on the wide fields. The extra few meters, give players extra space that you can use for creating free zones.

Narrow the field prefer a counterattacking team. On these fields much easier to defend. Zone is much narrower, and through them more difficult to get players attacking teams.

Long field convenient for teams that like to use vertical transmission. This way you can throw the ball from their goal to a stranger in the free zone behind the defenders.

The sizes of the internal field lines

In addition to length and width, there are inner zones of the field, which have clear standards. The field is divided into two equal parts, which are mirror image. The radius of the Central circle is 9,15 meters.

Located opposite the gates of the goalkeeper's area. Its lateral line is located at a distance of 5.5 metres or 6 yards from the inner sides of the goalposts. At a distance of 5.5 meters they are connected with a line which is parallel to the edge of the field. In this zone it is impossible to push the goalkeeper. In addition, it serves for orientation of the goalkeeper on the field, residing with his back to goal.

On each half of the field is marked penalty area — the area in which allowed the goalkeeper's hands, and breaking the rules the defending team is punished by a penalty. Her sides are at a distance of 16.5 meters or 18 yards from the inner sides of each of the stands parallel to the goal line. These sides are connected with perpendicular lines in the field at a distance of 16.5 metres, forming a rectangle.

In addition, in the penalty area is the 11-meter mark, which make their way from the penalty spot. It is at the distance of 11 meters in the center from the goal line. Football rules players must not approach the ball more than 9,15 meters. So outside the penalty area held an arc with that radius, centered on the 11-meter mark.
