To navigate in the space of a night, you need to find the North star. To do this, look in the starry sky, the Big Dipper – the seven stars forming the dipper. Through the two stars forming the outer "wall" of the dipper, draw a line and continue it up over the bucket, leaving the size of the "walls" of the bucket five times. On the cut end will be the North star that points North.

Day, not later than 18:00 will help you watch. Position them so that the hour hand pointed to the sun. The angle between it and the numeral 2 on the dial, divide in half. The dividing line will indicate the North and South: up to 14:00 is to the right of the sun, and then left. These determinants are valid for the territory of Russia.

Given the multiple uncertainties, it is possible to use natural tips. So, on the South side of pine trees produces more resin than the North. Nests are usually located to the South of the nearest trees and bushes and the southern side is flatter. On the South side, which is logical, in early spring, the snow melts faster on the slopes and rocks and gullies, respectively, faster than with the North. Berry plants ripen faster on the South side.

Mosses, lichens, and fungi often grow on the North side of trees and stumps. The soil in these areas will be more hydrated in the warm season.
