To select the maximum value in a few lines or columns of the table uses a special formula "MAX". It specifies the range of values from which selects the maximum number and displayed in the corresponding row.

Open the desired table in Excel by double-clicking on its file with the extension XLS. You can also create a new document, running the program via start - All programs - Microsoft Office – Microsoft Excel, and among the options select "Create". Enter the desired values in a table and create a cell that will display the maximum value in the selected columns.

Place the cursor in the created cell. After this go to the formula bar, which is located above the table in the application window and put a sign "=". Then click on the Fx icon which is located to the left of the line.

In the list of proposed features, click Static, and then locate and select the parameter "MAX". Opens a window called "function Arguments", where you will need to set the start and end values.

Click on field "Number 1" and specify the cells that will need to choose the desired number. This can be done by clicking on the start and end of a cell with the left mouse button or by entering the name of the cell data manually. If necessary, you can specify additional sorting options. After making settings, click OK.

If numeric data has been selected and entered correctly, in the right cell will be the maximum value. You can continue working with the table or save changes to an editable file.
Useful advice
The opposite of the function "MAX" is the parameter "MIN". It allows to consider the minimum value of the table. The parameters, that sets the settings of this operator correspond to the values "MAX." The result of the calculation table is also displayed in the appropriate cell.
