In fact mourning is a system of rules and prohibitions that must comply with family members and relatives of the deceased. The duration of wearing mourningand may vary: 3 days, 9 days, 40 days, 6 months, a year, several years or even a lifetime of mourning. This term depends on the degree of proximity of a person to the deceased. The most severe and prolonged mourning is observed in relation to the husband or wife, children and parents.

The mourning color is black. Today, however, the black color has already lost its sad purpose. Stylists have long introduced him into fashion because of the effect visually slim. However, to emphasize in the appearance of any item or article of clothing is dark in color the recent death of a loved one is very important for restoring psychological balance. As a rule, women wear mourningnye hats or scarves and long dresses, men shirts black.

According to popular tradition, to 40 days the soul of the deceased is with family and home. This understanding of death has influenced the character of mourning. Even if the family experienced great grief, they must lead a humble life, to show sadness, praying to limit their contact with other people, to avoid all manifestations of joy and happiness. In Russia it was forbidden to sing, to eat sweet meals, drink wine and go to festivals.

Post in the period of mourningand is observed not only among Christians but also in many other religions. In addition, a memorial meal is allowed, as a rule, only simple traditional food, including a special commemorative dishes: jelly, soup or fish soup, pancakes and pudding.

True believers and grieving soul of Orthodox Christians after the death of a relative, most need to strive not to an external observance of mourningcustoms, governmental, and internal humility, staying in fervent prayer for the deceased person. If the deceased was baptized, should be ordered prayers for the dead - a commemoration of the 40 liturgies necessarily in the 9-th and 40-th day from the date of death to attend Church and to have a memorial service every day to pray for the repose of the soul. If the deceased was not baptized, the only permissible prayer at home. In memory of the deceased should perform good deeds, to give alms to all suppliants.
