Use an external card reader. Insert the memory Stick into the appropriate slot of the computer, if your machine has an internal card reader. Get an external card reader and connect it to the USB port of your computer if you don't have appropriate built-in device.

Open the "start menu" and click on "My computer" to display a list of devices connected to the computer. Locate the icon with the name that corresponds to the card Memory Stick. Click the right mouse button and click "Format" from the pop-up menu that will appear immediately.

Make sure that the menu "Format" is set to NTFS. Leave all other options at default. Click "start" and wait until the formatting of the Memory Stick.

Download the Internet for the program Recover My Files if your computer does not have an already installed utility to recover files. Download and install this app to recovery software.

Open the app and click "Set settings manually" link at the bottom of the screen. Click on the "Search" tab and click the box "Search deleted files".

Click "OK" and then press "Complete recovery after formatting". Click "Next". Locate the icon for your memory Stick in the center of the screen and click it. Click "Next" again.

Browse through the list of file formats and click on appropriate file type that corresponds to the data that was on the Memory Stick. Click the "Graphics" if the memory Stick had image files or "Audio" if you want to recover the music. Select all file types if there were many of them and you want to recover all.

Select "Next" and then click "start". Scroll down the list of files that will find utility recovery. Click on each file you want to restore, and then click "Save files".

Specify the folder on the memory Stick or the hard drive of your computer where you want to save the recovered files. Click "Save" to finish recovering lost data.
