If you have decided to focus on creating arrangements, you'll need a basic knowledge without which it is impossible to begin the first phase of this work. Listen to the song or a song you have to arrange.

Carefully consider the style of the composition – from the choice of style depends largely on the direction of your further creative work. To begin, try to harmonize the melody, avoiding the monotony of creating new harmonies. Include in the arrangement unusual musical passages, non-standard chords and the rhythm part.

Consider the arrangement of features of the voice that sung the song. While the vocals don't go overboard with the number of instruments in the arrangement – too many instruments drown out the voice and mix the tune. All of the original independent melodies leave for a solo instrument part in the losses.

Always pay attention to the shape of the composition – this will preserve its integrity in the new arrangement. Observe the rhythmic size, consider the number of parts and musical squares in the song. Determine the moment of highest musical development of the topic.

Coming up with the losses, keep the form of the composition and its stylistic orientation. Different instruments accentuate different styles – remember this.
