For working with graphical objects in a Word document, use the section "Illustrations" on the "Insert" tab. Available to the user such as "picture", "Clip", "Figure", "Chart", and so on. In addition, you can copy any image from a graphics editor and paste it in the text.

Inserted in the document, the picture is a separate object even if it is not explicitly selected and serves only as a background for text.
