The definition of a percent

According to the Great Soviet encyclopedia, interest – hundredths of a share (taken as one). A cent is one hundredth and denote the symbol %.
2
Experiment with Apple

For clarity, take the whole Apple is the unit, or 100%. Cut it in half, give half to a friend. Now you have 1/2 or 0.5 or 50% (100%/2) from Apple. Again, cut and give half to a friend. Now you have 1/4 or 0.25 or 25% of Apple. Now cut this Apple into 25 parts, give 24 pieces friends. You have left (1/4)/25 = 1/100 or 0.25/25 = 0.01, or 25%/25 = 1% of Apple.
3
The percentage of the number

Hundredth part of the number means that 1% of the number, for example, 36 equal parts 1/100 or 0.01 of the share of the number 36.

36*1% = 36*1/100 = 36*0,01 = 0,36

36*6% = 36*6/100 = 36*0,06 = 2,16

1% of 36 is equal to 0.36; 6% from 36 is equal to 2.16
4
Make the proportion of

When solving problems with percentages for clarity or check the result, it is useful to make a proportion. For example, in the beginning of the year the pears were worth 63 p./kg. Inflation for the year was 11.2%. How much will it cost pears at the end of the year?

It is important to determine the amount that is taken as 100%. This is usually the original amount, with respect to which there is a growth or decrease.

R. 63/kg is 100%.

At the end of the year the price will be 100%+11,2% = 111,2% or 1,112 shares from 63 rubles/kg

Make the proportion:

63 p./kg – 100%

X p./kg – 111,2%,

where x (X) is unknown, i.e. what will be pear at the end of the year.

Apply the rule of proportion:

(63 p./kg)/(X $ /kg) = 100%/111,2%

Hence find X:

(R. 63/kg*111,2%)/100% = 70,1 € /kg

Interest as a unit at the same time reduced.
5
Use the rules of proportion

Having learned the rule of proportion, you can solve the inverse problem when a set of values and you want to find the percentage. For example, the annual salary of Sergei last year amounted to 210 thousand rubles, in the current of 290 thousand rubles, the percentage of his wages increased in comparison with the previous year?

210 thousand rubles – 100%

290 thousand R. – X%

Find X:

(290 thousand.*100%)/210 thousand. p. = 138%

This year the salary of Sergey amounted to 138% and 1.38 a share from 210 thousand rubles, i.e. increased by 38% over the previous year.
6
The percentage of a number using proportions

Find 18% of the amount of 189 – for this make the proportion.

189 is a 100%

X – it 18%

(189*18%)/100% = 34,02.
