How to make a raster from vector image

The process by which raster image is translated into a vector, called the trace. The resulting trace any raster image depends on the quality of the latter. Most often this technique is applied to images with razor sharp outlines and solid colors. Sometimes tracing is used in the case of imitation of paintings based on photos.

Instruction

1. In Adobe Illustrator tracing is carried out using commands: Menu – Object – Quick trace. Options for the vectorization in this case may be different. To be able to adjust the settings, use the command Object – Quick trace – Parameters.
2. Select the style of the trace from the list, or customize your own. Note that for simple tracing of illustrations or colored emblems is the style "6 colors". On vectorization of complex illustrations focused indicator "16 colors".
3. The parameter "a high-resolution Photograph" apply for digitization of a photo with detail of high degree, "Photography of poor quality" - when tracing a photo, where desirable reproduction of details. If you want the end result to drawing in shades of grey, tick the "Gradation of gray".
4. To trace the contour black-and-white image, follow these steps: command Object – Quick trace – tracing Options. Select the check box "Preview" to observe the current process.
5. Since the image is black and white, select the style "Technical drawing". Note that the picture is immediately changed. The color mode is "Black and white". Note the parameter "threshold value", responsible for the level of detail. The more the value is, the more minute details will take into account in the trace.
6. Any figure of pixels smaller than specified in the "Minimum area" will be thrown with vectoring because it was seen as noise. For example, to take into account the small points on the drawing, it is necessary to reduce this value to 2 pixels. After setting all parameters, click on the "Trace".
7. In the trace colour image with clear outlines and solid colors style select "16 colors". If not all colors will be considered, increase the value "Maximum number of colors" and slightly increase the value of the parameter "Minimum area" that will eliminate digital noise. Click on "Trace".
8. To perform high quality painting techniques click: Object – Quick trace – tracing Options. Select a style and start the trace.
