Documentation Windows the "standard icons" referred to a limited number of desktop icons that relate to the components of the system "Network", "Computer", "Trash", "user Files", "control Panel". If the problem is that the desktop is gone they go back to the place it is possible through Personalization. Click the background image of the desktop, right-click and select that name in the popup context menu.

Open preferences window system icons by clicking on the link "Change desktop icons" - it is placed in the left column of the personalization window. In the top section is the only tab in the window that opens, placed five checkboxes, each of which displays one of the system icons, check the boxes beside those you want and click OK.

If changed to display all or most of the icons of the graphical interface of the OS and you want to check their appearance by default, to do this, too, is possible through Personalization. Open it as described in the first step of the method, then scroll to the end of the list of available themes. You need a section called "Basic (simplified topics and themes with high contrast)" in the bottom of the table. This topic should be a theme called "Classic" - select it and the OS will use the most standard of the available icons.

There is more radical method to return the default icons - recoil system in the past up to the moment when it has used exactly such icons. They need to use with caution as it is likely to lose valuable information and programs added recently. But if you decide to use this method, press the Win button and type keyboard "Voss". In the opened main menu shows the list of links to programs and files, the first row which will "system Restore" - click it to start the recovery wizard.

Select one of the restore points from the list available. Look at the date - choose that in your opinion the icons still had the desired look. Then click "Finish" and follow the instructions on the screen.
