Try, if possible, apply in spring or autumn. No matter whether you make out a passport from scratch or change the old for the new, the period of its manufacture is 30 days from the date of submission of the application, but it is sometimes possible to get a passport faster if you change it in the low tourist season, and sometimes this procedure is delayed, when wanting very much. Also, a period more than 30 days, if you apply for a replacement residence.

Take the coupon to the FMS or register in an electronic queue for replacement of the passport on the Internet. It's a good idea to schedule a visitation, and then to undertake the collection of documents, usually it does not take much time. You will need the following paper.

Application form, filled in by hand or on the computer in two copies. If you fill out the form by hand, use black or blue pen, write legible in block letters. The questionnaire should be verified at the place of work or study print. Pensioners and the unemployed to assure the questionnaire is not required.

The passport of the citizen of the Russian Federation and copies of all significant pages.

The reasons for replacement of the passport may be several. According to the law of the Russian Federation, be sure to apply for a new passport if the document is damaged or lost, the owner changed his name or gender, the validity of the passport expired or I ran out of pages.
Useful advice
If the old passport expired service life, it is not withdrawn, according to the law. But if your passport is still valid and you want to replace it before the expiration of the period of service, it is necessary to write a special statement about what you want to keep it. In this case, the old passport will be cancelled when you replace the new, but not destroyed.
