To equip the floor when the humidity is high, is not an easy task. If the decision is made to close the floor is laminate, it is necessary to get acquainted with the criteria of water resistance material.

The basis of the laminate is the HDF-plate, manufactured using wood fibers. Wood fiber is fixed in shape using the fastening formaldehyde resin. The presence of binders is not intended moisture inside the bonding plate. But the water, as they say, wears away stone, so among the fibers it can also find finest bed.

The types of water-resistant products for the floor

There are types of coatings which are resistant to moisture:

HDF - panels have a density of 900 kg/m3. Such a density allows to contact with water for three hours without the consequences of failure. But most of that time, the coating will not resist – after drying it is subjected to deformation.

Laminate PVC is nothing like the plastic panels. The feature of their material – the lack of susceptibility to moisture. These panels have high heat and sound insulation, as done in the form of honeycombs with voids from air bags.

HDF panel with reinforcement. Have a high content of resinous substances. The water kept almost 6 hours. But at the end of this time begin to swell, and then drying the same change in shape.

Remember that vulnerable place of the panels is a connecting "locks" that are machined and have poor resistance to moisture.

How and what to choose

There are factors that determine the degree of protection of products:

  • resin impregnation,
  • paraffin protection of the locking system,
  • reinforced resin lower and upper layers.

Poor quality products should not even consider. After all, nobody wants a few months to undergo the procedure again repair the floor.

When you purchase should pay attention to the means of increased protection to moisture each species has any laminate plates.

You can do a simple test to measure the thickness of the sample products and put it in water for 6 hours, and then check to see how much thicker the product. The thickness should not be more than 18 percent.
