The titans
Titans in the mythology of Ancient Greece – gods of the second generation that preceded the gods of Olympus. This is the first children of the gods Uranus (heaven) and Gaia (earth). From the Union of Earth and Heaven occurred twelve children: six brothers - Hyperion, Iapet, Kay, Krios, Kronos, Ocean, and six sisters, Mnemosyne, Rhea, Theia, tefida, Phoebe, Themis.
One of the six brothers of the titans, Kronos, was the father of Zeus (the chief God of Olympus). Zeus overthrew and castrated his father. After that the titans came to the defense of his brother and started a war, which in mythology is called "Titanomachy". War was lost by the titans after a ten-year battle. And the gods of Olympus came out the winners. The titans were overthrown in a terrible Tartar on the advice of Prometheus. Later there was reconciliation between enemies and titans were obedient to Zeus, to recognize his power in full power over them. For this, the Thunderer gave them freedom.
If the first generation of gods in Greek mythology represented the cosmic forces (Chaos – primordial void and the abyss), the gods of the second generation titans were ancient beings representing the natural elements and disasters. They possessed wisdom and intelligence, did not know of the order and measures. They were notable for their savagery and brutality, the primitive thoughts and actions. The most important tool for them was brute force and primal power. They were not even of the heroism, wisdom and cosmic harmony, which is different from the later gods of Olympus – Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Hermes, etc.
