Open the standard file Manager of the operating system used. If you have installed any version of Windows to run this program, just press the hotkey Win + E. In the latest version of the OS (Windows 7) the icon of a file Manager (Explorer) docked in the taskbar, next to the "start" button - you can start the application by clicking this icon.

The tree of folders in an Explorer window, navigate to the directory that contains you are interested in the files. In the file Manager of Windows 7 in the upper right corner of the window there is a search field - it placed a text that starts with the word "Search", and then usually the name of the current folder. In this field enter the search query - asterisk, followed by a period and the extension corresponding to the desired file type. For example, if you want to select files, images in gif format, then the search query should look like this: *.gif. Immediately after entering, the attendant will begin filtering files, leaving the window only those extensions that match the specified mask.

Click once any of the filtered files to move the input focus from the field search request a list of files. Then press Ctrl + A and the Guide will highlight the whole list that contains only files of the desired type.

If you're running an earlier version, the fields for the search query in the Explorer window, you will not find. In this case, expand the menu section "View" and select "table" - the list of files in this display mode there is a column "file Type". Click on the title of this column and the files will be sorted according to their extensions. Locate the first file of the group of the desired type and click it. Then press Shift and hold, press the down arrow button until all desired files are not allocated.

Can be done differently - click the folder icon, right-click and from the context menu select "Find". This way you can run component of the operating system, which is necessary to enter a search query in the format described in the second step, and press the "Find" button. When the list of files of the desired type will be made, proceed as described in the third step.
