Dori – what the fish?


Fish Dory or Oreo Dory, is found on the shelves of the stores not so often. And if you meet few Housewives dare to cook this strange inhabitant of the Eastern part of the Atlantic ocean, southern Australian waters, the Mediterranean and even the Black sea.

Dori refers to the Dory. Externally this fish is similar to flounder, but for the nutritional value more similar to halibut. Her body is very laterally compressed and covered with small scales. Color dark brown, sometimes with a greenish tint. The size of the fish Dory in average 50 cm, but often there are small representatives of the length of 30 cm Oreo Dory lives in the depths of the water at 100-500 m depth, and leads a very sedentary lifestyle. Dory belongs to the predators. Usually eats sardines, small herring, sand eels.


Fish meat Dori is highly valued in Mediterranean countries, however, the high commercial values of this kind has not. The Dory fish is rich in vitamin D, B vitamins, potassium and magnesium. Fish Dory braised in wine



You will need: Dory fish -1 kg, butter – 0.5 tbsp, 0.5 lemon, a little flour, Bay leaf, herbs, spices to taste, half a glass of Madeira.

Clean the fish, to taste add spices. The butter must be added to the saucepan, then add the wine and Bay leaf. The fish put in a saucepan and simmer in wine until tender. You will need: the fish is Dory, bell pepper, tomatoes, onion, garlic, seasoning for fish.
