How to add a line to the hosts file

In the composition of the operating systems Windows series there are a number of files that perform a specific task, for example, hosts. This file has no extension and is positioned as a text document. It is designed to store lists of domains that should not be allowed access to the Internet.

Instruction

To find the hosts file, you must open Windows Explorer, navigate to the root of the system drive and open the folder at the following path: WindowsSystem32Driversetc. Run the file by double clicking on it. In the opened window select the program which will open the document. It is recommended to use any text editor, e.g. Notepad or Notepad.

In the opened document you will see a list of domains that was paid by you or by the system. The standard list usually consists of several lines: first, lines beginning with the characters "#", and secondly that contain themselves directly ' (via 127.0.0.1).

If the document cannot be opened with standard programs, it is recommended to change the file properties. Just right-click on it and select "Properties". In the window that appears, uncheck the item "read Only" and hit button "Apply" and "OK".

To add your line, creating an exception for a site, you must copy the line "127.0.0.1 localhost" and paste it on the next line (press Enter). Localhost should be changed to the domain of the blocked website. Thus, the line will look as follows: 127.0.0.1 site.ru. In some cases, before the domain, you should specify the www is generally typical of older sites.

Now press Ctrl + S to save the amendments made to the hosts file. Restart the computer, if you want to try this file. To cancel the blocking of the site you want to remove the entire string with the name of the domain from this file. After the removal of a specific ' the problem of the impossibility of maintaining such a file. In this case, you must delete the file and restart the computer.
