Photo-reactive keratectomy
FRK is one of the first techniques for laser vision correction with excimer laser. The laser acts on the corneal surface, while not affecting the internal structure of the eye.
Stages of PRK:
1. The operation is performed without anesthesia, the patient is instilled with drops which anesthetize eyes, and then use an eyelid retractor and, optionally, a vacuum ring for fixing the eye.
2. The patient should look at a certain point on the device.
3. The plot of the cornea, which will be surgery remove the epithelium, then using a laser, a new surface of the cornea
4. The operation is completed the instillation of anti-inflammatory drops and Eyewash. The eye a bandage.
When laser removal of the outer layer of the cornea is damaged the surface layer, and after the operation the corneal surface is left open, which leads to pain in the eyes, cramps, and photophobia. Not to do PRK on both eyes at the same time, the operation is performed first in one eye, and after his recovery on the other.
The operation takes only a few minutes, the recovery period lasts for several weeks, during which you should refrain from reading, watching TV, and instill prescribed drops.
Laser in-situ Keratomileusis (LASIK)
LASIK is a more modern operation than the PRK.
Stages of LASIK:
1. The doctor buries in the eyes pain drops, which leads to numbness of the eye. The same as with PRK, the eye is fixed and the patient must look at a flashing dot on the device.
2. Microkeratome cut a small square of the surface layers of the cornea
3. Then cut the corneal flap is folded aside opening the laser access to the deep layers of the cornea.
4. The laser creates a new surface of the cornea using short bursts, correcting the shape of the eye.
5. Cut the corneal flap is placed back and fixed with the help of collagen, which is secreted by the cornea alone.
6. The eye of the patient is washed, buried anti-inflammatory drops.
7. It is possible the surgery on the second eye.
Surgery LASIK procedure allows you to restore your vision within a few hours, return to normal life and to work the next day, and painless as during surgery and after.
