If you are writing coursework, thesis or dissertation, take in your educational Toolkit for the design work. Although there are common standards for footnotes, some of the requirements in different Universities can vary. For example, there is no unity in such matters as the allocation of the author's name in italics, font size, footnotes (10 or 12), etc. Read the manual, what are the requirements to the formatting of footnotes the school for which you are writing the work.

Determine what kind of citation you will use: direct (literal) or indirect (paraphrase). Direct quotation involves the use of a phrase from a source without changes, with the quotation highlighted quotation marks. Indirect quote means the retelling of thought taken from the articlein your own words. In this case quotation marks are not necessary.

Place the cursor after the quote. At the end of the sentence the cursor is set to point.

On the toolbar of the text editor Microsoft Word at the top of the computer screen, select menu "Insert", then "Reference" then "Footnote". In the opened window set the options footnotes: the position and format. Select the position of the footnote "bottom of page". In the format field, specify the number format: symbol footnotes with numbers or other symbols. Below footnotes were numbered separately on each page, in the "numbering" install "on every page". After that, click "Paste". As a result of your actions, where was the cursor, you will see a number (or other specified designation) footnote. The bottom of the page also shows the number (designation) of footnote, after which you must make a record of the source citation.

The entry in the subscript footnote do depending on the form of a citation. In a direct citation of articles of the journal, write the subscript footnote: "Smirnov, A. A., training of judges//Legal Gazette. - 2000. - No. 4. - P. 32". Indirect citation, write the footnote as follows: "See. about it: Smirnov A. A. training of judges//Legal Gazette. – 2000. - No. 4. – P. 32" or "See ... Smirnov A. A. training of judges//Legal Gazette. – 2000. - No. 4. – P. 32"
