The first day after surgery
On the first day after surgery, patients are often in intensive care or in the intensive care unit. In these hours the patient recovers consciousness after anesthesia, intensive intravenous-drip treatment anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics.
The first feeding of the patient is carried out about a day after surgery, but not later. If the patient is in serious condition, feeding is carried out through a nasogastric tube (a special tube that goes down through the esophagus into the stomach). Such patients need light foods, rich in vitamins and proteins, perfect baby milk. Mixture for children nutritious and contain nutrients that are needed by the body after the surgery.
In cases where the patient is able to eat on his own, his diet consists of easily digestible food. It is recommended to drink warm soups because they are rich in proteins, from which the body obtains amino acids, the building material in cell regeneration. In the diet of the patient included cereals, cooked in water. They are rich in minerals and vitamins and also contain fiber, which promotes peristaltic movement of the intestine.
Doctors advice on nutrition of postoperative patients, and emphasize foods containing fiber, which promotes peristalsis. The more active peristalsis of the intestine, the greater the blood flow faster and stop inflammation. But in the first day don't eat vegetables and fruits in fresh form, and only steamed or boiled. Fresh fruits cause flatulence, which increases the inflammation in the abdominal cavity and contributes to the formation of adhesive processes.
The first day is strictly forbidden to eat foods that trigger flatulence – black bread, milk, sparkling water, etc.
The late postoperative period
After a few days after the operation the patient's diet is expanding. It is recommended to eat lean meats and fish – beef, rabbit, pike-perch, hake, Pollack, etc. All meals should be steamed or boiled, it is strictly forbidden to eat fried food and canned food. Fish and meat are rich in protein from which connective tissue forms in the healing of wounds, as well as B vitamins and some minerals.
To saturate the body with vitamins, patients are advised stewed fruit, broth hips, etc. In the diet should focus on greens and vegetables because they are rich in minerals, fiber, and some, e.g. cranberry, parsley, dried plums, and contain anti-inflammatory substances.
In the postoperative diet is recommended to limit consumption of sweet foods because elevated glucose level slows down the process of recovery. If the operation was carried out on the pancreas, such products are generally excluded for life.
