Need to format the system hard drive without installing a new operating system. If you still need to clean the hard drive from the OS, then use another computer. Remove the hard drive from the system unit. Connect the hard drive to another computer, using it as a secondary hard drive.

Turn on the computer. Open the list of existing partitions on your hard drives ("My computer"). Just right click on system partition drive and click "Format." Specify, if required, the new cluster sizes and set the volume label. Click "Start" to start the cleaning process.

If you are not able to connect the hard drive to another computer, use an installation disc of Windows Seven or Vista. Insert one of the disks in the drive. Run the setup program of the operating system.

When the display window appears with the list of existing partitions, select "configure ROM" (Disk Settings). Select system partition and click "Format." If you do not want to install a new OS, just turn off the computer.

Alternatively, an installation CD, use the Partition Manager. Plus this utility is that you can configure certain actions, which then will be executed in DOS mode.

Run Partition Manager and switch to advanced user. Just right click the system partition of the disk. Select "Format". Confirm the selected operation. Specify format of file system volume clean.

To start the process, click "Apply pending changes". After some time a window will appear, containing a proposal to restart the computer. Click "Restart now". The program will continue to work in DOS mode.
