Determine the genre in which they write a book. It is also worth to define the target audience (age, education, marital status, average monthly income), the volume and relevance.
2
Find the coordinates of the publishers (official sites, addresses, telephone numbers) interested in reviewing manuscripts similar genres. Make a list of potentially loyal publishers and thoroughly examine their priorities. Usually on the main page of the website of each publisher you can find this information, which says in part, in any works they are interested in. Study the bestsellers of recent years, which were issued by these publishers. Read some of these books and try to understand what the author was able to interest a publisher first, and then the reader.
3
Study the bestsellers in recent years in the selected genre from other publishers, preferring the largest. Find the strengths of the books, novelty and usefulness to the reader. It is useful to communicate with fans of literature selected genre and studied a separate book series. Readers better than any of the analysts talk about their feelings on modern literature and the expectations placed on new authors.
4
Collect the information and organize it. Try to build not only a portrait of the reader, but also try to structure his expectations from the acquisition of your book: the usefulness, relevance (scientific and popular scientific literature), the nonlinearity of the plot, unique characters and sequence of events (for fiction), etc. On the basis of these data begin to create the concept of the book. This information will be of little interest to publishers – it is more important for the author, as it will serve as a guide in creating the book.
