You will need
- A computer running the operating system
Instruction
1
Perform analysis of the need for disk defragmentation. The large number of fragmented files significantly increases the access time of the file, as it spent a lot of time for permanent positioning of the drive head over the tracks in different sectors of the disk. To do this, click the right mouse button on the icon "My computer" in the start menu" and select from the context "Control". In the left console window "computer Management" snap-in, click the "Defragment disk".
2
In the lower part of the window, click "Analysis". The utility will analyze the disk and display a dialog box with information about the need for defragmentation. Click "Defragment".
3
Set the paging file size to the minimum value. If the paging file is high, the system increases the number of accesses to the slow hard drive. To change this setting, select the item "Properties" by right clicking on the icon "My computer". Go to the "Advanced" tab and click under "Performance" click "Settings". In the opened window, select the size of the paging file.
4
To reduce the displacement of the magnetic head or hard disk into logical drives that will allow you to share service information and also group the shared files on the same drive. This will reduce the access time.
5
If possible, increase the number of physical disks to two. This will allow you to distinguish between transactions read-write, which increases several times the performance.
6
Many models of hard disks have the function of AAM to regulate the level of noise. The noise level when using this function is greatly reduced, but also decreases the speed head positioning. Some drive models support disabling this feature using service utilities, which may be downloaded on the website of the manufacturer. Although the interfaces of different tools, but the General principle of their use is the following: boot from a bootable CD to run the utility from floppy, choose the menu item Automatic Acoustic Management, choose disabled mode of AAM. It will significantly improve performance, although at the expense of noiseless computer.
