You will need
- connection to the Internet.
- - special software.
Instruction
1
Look in the manual to figure out the model that is installed on the computer device for data storage.
2
Go to the Internet. Just search for "HDD forum". Explore the information on the forums, where users discuss the specifications of hard drives which they use software to determine and adjust the spindle speed. Here are some addresses of major websites where you can get help and good advice: ClubControl (http://www.clubcontrol.ru/forum/), HDD forum (http://hdd.kulichki.com/forum/), Monitor (http://monitor.net.ru/forum/) etc. On the Internet you can find a large number of programs, both paid and free. However, not all of them work equally well with various models of hard drives.
3
Download and install the necessary software. Now turn the computer off and let it rest 10-15 min. To determine the actual rotation speed of the disk must be measured in the system, which has not yet managed to get a heavy load and is in perfect condition.
4
Run the program. Examine the list of physical disks that are presented in list or chart. Select the drive whose information you need to know now.
5
Test speed called Benchmark. Usually the test fails to obtain information which give a completely objective picture of the status of the disk as a whole. Click Start and wait for completion of test.
6
Analyze data collected by the program. Please note a few critical points. First, look at the value of the Transfer Rate Minimum. This figure determines the minimum data transfer speed, while the Maximum Transfer Rate indicates the maximum. Then move on to medium speed, called Transfer Rate Average. Write down the numbers or save them in any other way.
7
Note Access Time - an indicator describing the average access time to files, which is measured in milliseconds. Along with the Burst Rate (peak speed HDD) Access Time is a very important characteristic to consider. Fix also data about the CPU load during rotation of the hard disk.
8
Compare all the collected program data with the ones provided by the HDD manufacturer in the instruction manual of the PC. Pay attention to the fact that the numbers of indicators can differ significantly, however, this is not always indicative of damage to the HDD. A great influence on the results of the tests provide the conditions for its operation.
