System requirements and preparations for installing WINDOWS 7 64 bit
For installation on a 64-bit version of Windows 7 is required:
the x64 processor with a clock frequency of at least 1 GHz
- at least 2 GB of memory (RAM)
- at least 20 GB of free hard disk space
- DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver version 1.0 or higher
- all the components of your computer or laptop needs to support the OS of this type.
For comfortable work the minimum hardware requirements need to increase at least twice. But if you have less than 4 GB of RAM, install Windows 7 64 bit does not make sense.
To find outwhether it is possible to install Windows 7 64 bit on your computer, open "control Panel" and select "information and tools for performance." In the opened window click on "view and print detailed performance information and system information". Here in the section "System" will indicate which type of system is used, and also includes information about support for 64-bit version of Windows.
In Windows XP, right-click the mouse on the icon "My computer" and select "Properties" from the context menu. If the "System" section says "x64 Edition", then you can safely install the 64-bit version of Windows. Otherwise download from Microsoft's free upgrade Advisor for Windows 7 and run it.
If the computer is running a 32-bit version of Windows to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit, you might need a full reinstall. So be sure to:

2. Save all important files and settings to an external drive or a network share.

The installation of Windows 7 64 bit
