You will need

A free open-source image editor GIMP.

Instruction

Open the image in GIMP editor. Select the application menu items "File" and "Open" or press Ctrl+O. In the select file dialog box, specify the drive and directory where it is located. Select the file in the listing of the current directory. Click "Open".

How to remove the background on <b>photos</b> without <em>photoshop</em>

Select the background for pictures. Use the "Rectangular selection", "selection (Elliptical)", "Free selection", "contiguous area Selection", "select by color". You can also use the switch to quick mask mode with the subsequent correction of drawing tools and switch to the edit mode of the image.

Remove background on photos. Press the Del key, or select menu items "edit" and "Clear".

Treat the background separately. After removing it the image appeared transparent region. If necessary, fill them with any color, or create a new background by placing an image in the additional layer.

Save results process images. Select the menu items "File", "Save as". In the save dialog, specify a path and image file format. Click "Save".

Note

Choose menu item "Save as" so you don't accidentally overwrite the original image.
