How to obtain Moldovan citizenship

For registration of citizenship you need to send the application form to the President of the Republic of Moldova in the division of registration and documentation of population by place of residence.

The application should enclose the following documents:- your birth certificate (copy);- a document confirming the fact of residence of your parents on the territory of Bessarabia until 28 June 1940; documents confirming the citizenship of another state;- passport (copy);- certificate of no criminal record from the country the citizen of which you are at the time of the appeal to the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.

If you have never lived on the territory of Moldova, you have the right to receive Moldovan citizenship under naturalization. To do this you must meet the following conditions:- within a certain time legally reside in Moldova;- know the state language and the Constitution of the Republic;- have legal sources of income;- to abandon the existing citizenship of another country.The term of consideration of the statement for acquisition of citizenship from the day of receiving the documents is 1 year.

If you are not a refugee, the minimum period of stay in Moldova for citizenship for 10 years. If you're live in parents or children, having citizenship of the Republic, minimum stay is 3 years. In addition, you are eligible to apply for citizenship of the Republic of Moldova after 3 years of marriage with a citizen of the Republic, regardless of the time of your residence on its territory.

To apply for the acquisition of Moldovan citizenship, you can in a diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Moldova who are abroad. This is especially true for persons living on the territory of other States.
