Natural causes darkening of urine



Most often, the dark urine observed in the morning, during the day the urine becomes normal color. This is due to the increase in the concentration of the liquid accumulated in the bladder that is not emptied for a long time. The cause darkening of the urine may be insufficient fluid intake. This problem is solved by normalization of drinking regime.

The color of urine can influence the products used in the last days (beans, rhubarb, beets, some berries, beef), a large number of drinking coffee or black tea, food dyes, and some medicines. Such drugs include antibiotics, vitamins, iron preparations, tincture of aloe, antimalarial, and a laxative.


Sometimes dark urine complain about women in the early pregnancy and suffering from preeclampsia. The reason for this is dehydration – frequent vomiting of the body displayed a large amount of fluid, which leads to a change in the color of urine.

Pathological causes darkening of urine color



If dark urine is not related to eating certain foods or taking drugs that persists after you change the mode of drinking maybe its cause – any illness. The urine may darken because of disorders in the kidneys or liver, infections of the urinary tract, diseases of the pancreas. Often a change in the color of urine and its turbidity is observed in pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis. Dark urine is one of the characteristic signs of hepatitis.

If the urine is not only dark, but acquires a reddish tint, it is possible to suspect the presence in it of blood – this may be due to mechanical damage of the urinary tract or kidneys with urolithiasis, trauma, and also with the appearance of tumors in the kidney, bladder or other organs of the excretory system.

It is important to pay attention to the combination of the color change urine with other symptoms of illness, including abdominal pain, fever, nausea or vomiting. The value have an unusual or unpleasant smell and appearance of urine (the presence of flakes, blood), frequency and painful urination. Regardless of the severity of these symptoms should consult a doctor as soon as possible to prevent development of the disease.

Also dark urine can occur in cases of poisoning by chemicals, heavy alcohol intoxication, under certain rare diseases (porphyria, thalassemia, hemolytic anemia).
