The post is not just for physical but for moral purification. It is important not just to give up animal food, but to wish good to others and help them to forgive those whom you have a grievance, to refrain from marriage and to renounce certain passions, and entertainment events. The post should not be perceived as a goal and to be a burden, otherwise in the first case it would mean that you feed your vanity, and in the second you just get angry.

In the post-eat foods of plant origin. Monday, Wednesday and Friday must be xerophagy, when permitted fruits, vegetables and lean bread. On Tuesday and Thursday allowed to hot food without oil (cereals, soups), but Saturday and Sunday you can eat vegetarian food with oil.

As for fish, the Nativity fast it is permitted there are from 28 November to 20 December (except Wednesday and Friday) in lent in the feast of the Annunciation if it falls during Holy week (the week of), and palm Sunday. In the Dormition fast fish can be eaten only on the feast of the Transfiguration, and in Peter's fast, fish is allowed on any day except Wednesday and Friday.

The Orthodox Church permits not to fast infants and nursing mothers. Some relaxation of the rules of the post acceptable for the elderly, the sick, travelers, and those who are every day engaged in heavy physical labor. The decision on fasting should be voluntary. Your children have fasted with you, you have a good understanding of why it is necessary to explain to the child the meaning of abstinence. And, of course, be a personal example.
