There are no specific requirements for age godparents (godfather of fonts), but the canons of the Church indicate that godparents may not be blood parents of the child, the people of other faiths, atheists, as well as minors. It is also prohibited to choose as godparents mother and father, spouses or a couple that intends to marry. It is desirable that godparents together with someone from the biological parents of the child (most often the father, as the mother after delivery up to 40 days in the temple is not allowed) ended up visiting the Church in advance and agreed on the sacrament.

The expenses for the baptism usually take on the godparents of the child, who pay the cost of the ceremony and baptism cross for my godson. In some cases, future godparents can give to your spiritual child and the special sets of clothes that baby will wear before the visit to the temple and after the sacrament.

In addition, in any case, for baptism requires two towels, stacked in the shape of a cross, candles that will keep in the hands of all attendees invited to the sacrament in the Church.

During the baptism all attendees must be wearing a consecrated crucifix, even the simplest, made of wood). Women must wear dresses or skirts of an appropriate length (no higher than knee), and their heads at the entrance to the temple and in the room for the sacrament have to be covered with head scarves and scarves. An exception may be made only for little girls.

For the ceremony the godparents must be purchased in advance at the Church consecrated crucifix with chain of sufficient length that will allow you to freely put on him over the head during the baptism.

No specific reference to the day on which it is possible to baptize a baby – it can be done at any time, even in adulthood, but in Orthodoxy the kid usually baptized between 7 and 40 days from date of birth. The Church for the sacrament, day and time must be arranged with the priest who will perform the ceremony.
