L-thyroxine is a synthetic drug that has a positive effect on the growth and development of the organism, accelerates the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, increases need tissues of oxygen, makes the cardiovascular and nervous systems. Take this drug only as directed by your doctor. It is used in the treatment of thyroid disease: diffuse and nodular goiter, thyroid cancer, hypothyroidism. In addition, l-thyroxine is indicated for patients as a restorative means after surgical treatment of thyroid cancer.

L-thyroxine, like any medication, there are a number of contraindications. Do not take the medicine, if your body is sensitive to its components. L-thyroxine is usually not administered to patients with hyperthyroidism, acute myocardial infarction, insufficiency of the adrenal cortex.

This drug is available in form of tablets of white color. Take it 30 minutes before meals, if the doctor is not appointed another scheme of treatment. The dosage of l-thyroxine is dependent on the type of disease, its severity and the age of the patient. For example, when hypothyroidism is prescribed 1/2 a tablet of the drug once a day, in diffuse goiter – 1-2 tablets, recovery in the postoperative period is 1-3 tablets per day.

Remember that when taking l-thyroxine can be side effects. These include irritability, anxiety, insomnia, pain in the heart area, loss of body weight. Rarely can occur violation of the chair and increased sweating.

Take care with l-thyroxine if you suffer diabetes, congestive heart failure, angina. Under constant supervision must be elderly people who use this drug, and patients with hypofunction of the thyroid gland and people with insufficient function of the adrenal glands. When interacting with other drugs l-thyroxine can strengthen or weaken their actions, so be sure to inform the attending physician about the medications you are taking.
