Why electric motor overheats

Disturbances in the motor operation may be caused by several reasons. One of them often include the violation of rules of transportation, storage and installation, as well as the use of inadmissible modes of operation. Sharp shocks, continuous vibrations or shocks lead to the violation of the integrity of engine components and may lead to overheating during operation.

Even worse, if the motor is stored for a long time in the open air, is feeling the effects of low temperature and high humidity. These adverse factors can cause the appearance on the outer surface of the rotor and stator core corrosion.
As a result of corrosion of the metal air gap between the construction elements is critically reduced, which becomes another reason for heating the engine.

One of the most common motor fault is the damage to the insulation of coils, in most cases, lead to local short circuits. During operation, the unit began to warm up, the rotor rotates unevenly, and the shaft of the machine irreversibly deformed. The insulation winding can damage as careless transportation of the engine, and the ingestion of foreign particles.

Other causes of engine overheating and how to resolve them

If when the motor rotor moves with difficulty or not remains stationary while there is intense heating of the case, it is possible the destruction of the bearing. When such a malfunction, the rotor and stator affect each other, leading to a complete jamming. Usually in this case you want to send the motor in for repair to replace the bearing.

Motor overheats often, if it is overloaded, e.g. because of overvoltage or undervoltage in the network. A sharp increase in air temperature in the room, clogging the air vents can also lead to this effect.
Solved the problem by removing the overload and the normalization of the temperature in the place of operation of the engine.

During prolonged continuous operation of the engine, one can often observe a decrease in power. The electrical machine is working at maximum mode, but can't gain the required speed, at the same time starting to heat up. The reason again is getting overload, which need to be addressed. In some cases, enough to turn off the unit and leave it for a time like this.
