Useful properties of St. John's wort


Chemical composition of Hypericum diverse: here there are organic acids, choline, essential oil, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, resins, cetilovy alcohol, copper, silver, vitamins P and E and other active substances.


With such a rich composition, St. John's wort is used as antispasmodic, disinfectant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, astringent and styptic. However, it is prescribed in gout, gastritis, cystitis, diseases of the kidneys, liver, nervous system and other ailments.
The taking of medicines on the basis of St. John's wort is contraindicated for high blood pressure, and lactating and pregnant women.


Peculiarities of preparation of infusion and decoction of Hypericum


For an infusion of the crushed leaves, stems and flowers of this medicinal plant. The recipe for this healing agent is as follows:
- 3 tbsp. l. crushed fresh raw or 15 g of dry grass;
- 200 ml of boiling water.

St. John's wort pour just boiled water and insist mixture for 3.5-4 hours in a dark place. Further, the infusion is filtered. Use it at 13-15 ml three times a day before meals. This drug is indicated for colitis, cholelithiasis, gastritis, low blood pressure, severe headache and disturbance of the venous circulation. Moreover, this infusion can be used in the treatment of skin non-infectious diseases in children: prepared medium was added to the bath with warm water.
A decoction of St. John's wort is an effective remedy for hair loss. For cooking 50 g of material take 1,000 ml of water.



Remarkable effect on inflamed joints has a tincture prepared from the following components:
- chopped raw material (leaves, stems and flowers of Hypericum);
- vodka.

The ingredients are mixed (ratio 1:7) and insist in a cool dark place for 3-4 days. Then the infusion is filtered. Apply this remedy as warming compresses to the joints. Also prepared according to this recipe tincture can be used for inhalation and rinse of the mouth: for this purpose it is diluted with cool boiled water (1 teaspoon of tincture take 45-50 ml of water).


To prepare a decoction, you will need the following components:
10 g of the ground dry grass;
- 1 Cup of water.

St. John's wort pour hot boiled water, after which the container with a medicinal composition put in a water bath for half an hour. Then the broth is cooled at room temperature for 10-13 minutes, strain and add a volume of warm boiled water to 200 ml. Take this remedy for diseases of the digestive system three times a day for 28-30 minutes before meals in ½ Cup.
